The Devil in Denim Melanie Scott Books

I loved this book. The characters are so well developed. The author wrote Alex in such a way that, although I wanted to hate him for his hard core business tactics, I understood why he had to be that way. And he was human and truly a good guy. And at times I was irked at Maggie for being immature, but I hurt along with her for things not happening the way she wanted. And in the end she always stepped up, not acting like a whiny child but sucking things up like an adult.

But I felt everything along with them which to me is a sign of a well written, great story.

The storyline could've gotten bogged down by the business side of things but the author did a beautiful job of weaving that all in with the romance and making it so realistic. (I also love baseball so maybe I'm biased ;)

I really liked Alex and I really liked Maggie (especially her imaginary therapist-brilliant and hilarious) and I found myself rooting for them.

I can't wait to read the next books in the series.

The Devil in Denim Melanie Scott Books Reviews

Melanie is awesome. This is the 1st book I read by Melanie. I truly loved this book. I am a big baseball fan so this book was fun to read )
Loved this book. I love when the characters have instant chemistry. Bought the book because of the cover. Once I started I could not put it down. Love this author and cannot wait to read this next book.
I really couldn't stand Maggie. Her spoiled overly dramatic flip flopping was eye roll inducing and required page skipping to get through. It was obvious she was not mature enough for the CEO job she coveted, and if I were Alex I would have thought she wasn't mature enough for an adult relationship as well.
When it appeared that new owners would possibly move the Saints to Texas, a move that would not be in the best interests of the team, action was necessary. A few of the wives involved took action on their computers to seek the truth. Discovering unwanted truths about the new owner caused him to withdraw his bid resulted in Alex becoming the new CEO of the Saints.
I loved Melanie Scott's The Devil in Denim. It's a wonderful, sexy baseball romance that I couldn't put down. Alex Winters is sizzling hot. And Saint Maggie, thank God, isn't always a saint when it comes to the new owner of the New York Saints. Scott hits a homerun with the first in this series. After reading this one, I quickly bought the next two. Can't wait to read the stories of Lucas and Mal. Yeehaw! I love when I find another great writer. Right in time for baseball season, too. Even better. If you love books by Jill Shalvis and Jaci Burton, you'll love this book!
I enjoyed the story premise a lot. What sold the story was the baseball business setting and the hero and his friends. Alex, was a refreshing hero - rational, smart, passionate and committed to doing the right thing without a lot of subterfuge and misdirection. I really dislike miscommunication as a plot device and that was resolved very quickly in the book.

However, Maggie was not a heroine I could give much respect. I wouldn't say she was TSTL, but it boggled my mind that she could not comprehend why she was not in any way prepared to run a floundering multi-million dollar organization straight out of grad school. Her emotional and mental immaturity throughout a good part of the book IMO weakened the storyline and reinforced her lack of capability to be a CEO. Instead of seeing an opportunity to learn from people who have proven success, she expects to stamp her foot and get her way. It was remarkably off putting. Had this been a "New Adult" category book, it would have made sense, but since the hero was 37, it just made Maggie seem all the more immature in her behavior.

While I liked the rhythm of the author's writing style, many of the idioms she would use did not ring true for a young, fresh from school person.

Overall, it was an OK read and a pleasant distraction. Just wish I had waited for a sale.
Loved this book from the first paragraph on. It keeps your interest through the whole book. The characters are great and an amazing start to a series. I wasn't going to get this book because I thought the price was high, but I received a gift card and bought it. Was I happy that I did. Right after I finished it, I bought book 2 and preordered book 3. Really worth it. These books are great. This book is about 3 friends who used to play ball together in college and were injured and were unable to play anymore. They went on to do other things and make a lot of money. Years later they buy a bad team to try to build it up and to get back into the sport in another way. However, Maggie's family owed the Saints and she thought she would eventually be running the team. Now she feels heartbroken, betrayed and doesn't know what to do. She ends up working with them, really directly with Alex. The sparks fly. It's a great story. I didn't stop reading until I was done with book 2. Highly Recommend.
